Supercapacitor is a new type of electric energy storage device between traditional capacitor and battery. Its mechanism is physical energy storage. The device does not generate heat. It has the advantages of high power, long life and good safety. It is irreplaceable in many application fields. Its application fields mainly include backup power supply, replacement power supply or main power supply for small power electronic equipment; Electric vehicle and hybrid vehicle power supply; Renewable energy power generation, energy storage and instantaneous power compensation; Energy buffer of variable frequency drive system; Military equipment, etc.
Cao Gaoping, a researcher at the Research Institute of chemical defense of the people's Liberation Army and consultant of China super capacitor industry alliance, pointed out in the industry report that there are about 20 core super capacitor enterprises in China. It is estimated that by 2020, China's super capacitor market will reach 13.84 billion yuan. Compared with 2012, the price of 3000f devices has decreased by 80%, indicating a rapidly expanding market.
Compared with the European and American markets, China is the first country to establish the super capacitor industry alliance, and has become the largest market of super capacitors. In recent years, the rapid development of wind power generation in China provides a great place for supercapacitor, which is the best choice in windmill starting and sizing system. At the same time, with the development of China's shipping industry, more and more super capacitors are used in the mechanical system of port container transportation.
Ruan Dianbo, senior engineer of Ningbo CRRC new energy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Ningbo CRRC"), said in an interview that under the influence of the subsidy policy for new energy vehicles, at present, the new energy vehicles produced by CRRC for domestic customers are mainly equipped with lithium batteries, but from the perspective of the whole life cycle, the development potential of supercapacitors in the future is unlimited.
Zhou Jianfeng, vice president and general manager of sales in China and Asia Pacific region of Maxwell, believes that many market segments of supercapacitors are still in the cultivation stage, and there are still imperfections in the development process. The real value of supercapacitors has not been fully reflected. He believes that the market of supercapacitors is not a market from 0 to 1, but an emerging market from 1 to n.
Some experts attending the meeting believed that in the future, the application potential of supercapacitor in new energy commercial vehicles is huge, or it will account for 50% of the whole application. In addition, super capacitors have great application space in the fields of solar energy street lamp energy storage system, port machinery, fast power bank, rail transit energy recovery, suppressing the instantaneous fluctuation of renewable energy power generation, high-power motor starting, consumer electronic, etc.
Although supercapacitor has many advantages, there are still two short boards which are the most restrictive factors. One is the low energy density, the other is the high price. At present, the energy density of supercapacitors with better performance in China is 30 WH / kg, while the energy density of most secondary batteries has exceeded 200 WH / kg. This means that the volume of super capacitor is much larger than that of battery for storing the same amount of electricity, so it can't blindly march into some fields which are limited by space, such as new energy passenger cars, backup power supply of communication base station, etc.
In addition to energy density, the price of supercapacitor is several times higher than that of battery for energy storage device with the same capacity. Therefore, supercapacitors can not be the main force of energy storage directly, but should be the main force of energy recovery.
In view of the current situation of the industry, academician Yang Yusheng, chairman of the super capacitor industry alliance, believes that the super capacitor industry needs to further expand the scale of the industry and actively expand new application scenarios and profit models. He put forward two suggestions: first, we should make great efforts to cooperate, widely use domestic super capacitor activated carbon, find problems and improve them in time, stabilize production as soon as possible, improve cost performance, and realize the localization of high-performance super capacitor activated carbon. The second is to develop battery type capacitors to meet the specific needs of users, and vigorously explore the application fields and markets of capacitors.
Qian Weizhong, Deputy Secretary General of China super capacitor industry alliance and professor of Tsinghua University, believes that there is still a lot of room for the development of super capacitor technology. Exploring new materials and new systems for super capacitor, combining quasi capacitor and new carbon materials, developing super capacitors with high specific energy and broadening the scope of application are the core of promoting the good development of super capacitor industry.
Gao Bo said that although the development speed of the supercapacitor industry is much slower than that of the battery industry, it has witnessed the development of the supercapacitor industry in the five years since it came into contact with the supercapacitor industry. The industry needs to have a clear understanding, continue to work hard, overcome difficulties, and continue to innovate, which will surely usher in a bright future.
